Soldier Killed In NPA Ambush In South RP

DAVAO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / 08 Mar) – Suspected communist insurgents ambushed a government soldier and wounded another in the southern Philippine province of Compostela Valley, security officials said.

Officials said the attack occurred in the village of San Roque in New Bataan town. The soldiers were on motorcycle and heading to their post when six New People’s Army rebels attacked them.

The soldiers belong to the Army’s 28th Infantry Battalion. The ambushers fled after the attack.

The NPA is the armed wing of the underground Communist Party of the Philippines, which is fighting the government the past three decades for the establishment of a Marxist state in the country. (Romy Bwaga)
