ZAMBOANGA CITY (Bong Garcia / 03 Jan) There is no pronouncement yet as who will replace Lt. Gen. Edilberto Adan as the next chief of the military in Southern Philippines.
Adan, who is scheduled to retire January 11, said “only the president knows who will replace me as the military chief of the region. There is none yet."
He assumed the Southern Command post in September 10, 2005. He said he did not make any recommendation on who will succeed him.
The Southern Command, the largest military installation outside Manila, is usually headed by a 3-star general. It commands two navy and an air force headquarters, and has control over three army divisions and two marine brigades in the souther Philippines.
Adan said he has so many things to do after he retires and vowed to spend more time with his family. "There are so many things to be done, like spend more quality time with my family," he said.
When asked if he has intention to join politics in the future, Adan replied: "The future looks bright."
Two incumbent senators, Rodolfo Biazon and Panfilo Lacson, were formerly chief of the armed forces and the national police, respectively.
Adan is the 27th chief of the Southern Command, and 8th under the Arroyo administration. He is instrumental in the arrest of many terror leaders.
