ZAMBOANGA CITY (Zamboanga Journal / 01 Apr) Two of the Philippines top passenger airliners -- Cebu Pacific and Air Philippines -- have offered special domestic rates -- as low as P1 for a one way ticket – to lure local and foreign vacationers who are expected to flock to beach resorts in the Visayas and Mindanao to escape to escape the scorching summer heat.
Air line executives said the low flight rates would encourage air travel among Filipinos.

Cebu Pacific first made the special offer on Wednesday and will run until Sunday or until seats is sold out. And Air Philippines also followed, but the bigger Philippine Air Lines did not lower its travel fares, but said boasted of its world-class passenger service.

Cebu Pacific, which earlier offered a P10 ticket fare, said more than 50,000 seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis, but the special offer does not include taxes and surcharges.

"We are the country's low-fare leader and we will always have the lowest fares to any destination we fly to," Bong Mojica, Cebu Pacific general manager, said in a statement. "It's all about making flying more affordable to more people. And now that we're giving out our seats practically for free, almost anyone can fly."

Mojica said the promotion is part of the company's celebration of its 10th anniversary and the travel flights are between June 20 and October 18. Prior to the promotional offer, Cebu Pacific's lowest fare was P688 for a one-way ticket to Bacolod City in Negros province, Roxas and Iloilo in central Philippines.

Air Philippines, on the other hand, said is made the promotion to encourage Filipinos to travel.
