Blast Kills 1 in Zamboanga

ZAMBOANGA CITY (Zamboanga Journal / 13 May) One person was killed and three others wounded in an explosion Saturday on an island off the Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines, police said.

Police said it was investigating whether the explosion on Gilang-gilang island was caused by a homemade bomb used by the islanders in illegal fishing. It said a nine-year old boy was among the injured.

Although authorities have stepped up its drive against Illegal fishing, it is still rampant in many parts of the southern Philippines, where syndicates and smugglers continue to sell ammonium nitrate, a chemical fertilizer use as main ingredient in the manufacture of homemade bombs.

On Friday, five people were seriously wounded when homemade dynamite exploded at a market in the coastal town of Margosatubig in Zamboanga del Sur province.

The blast was believed triggered by a feud among two groups of fishermen.

I wish for the complete stop of dynamite fishing. You may catch fish now. In the future, there will be no more. And, everybody starve to death.
