The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) expresses its strong solidarity with fellow journalists in Iraq, 129 of whom have been killed since the US invasion in 2003.
On June 15, the Global Day of Solidarity with Journalists in Iraq, the NUJP and the Journalism Department of the University of the Philippines-Diliman and UJP-UP, an organization of MassCom students, will hold a forum discussion on the killing of journalists in Iraq and other parts of the world.
It will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the UP College of Mass Communications Auditorium. As the International Federation of Journalists said in its statement, "Every day, Iraqi journalists take risks and make sacrifices that are essential for free expression. It is time that we recognize their crucial role in the fight for freedom and democracy in Iraq."
Again, we express our mourning for the deaths of our colleagues in Iraq. But we demand an end to the slaughter.
