NORTH COTABATO (Zamboanga Journal / 17 Jun) Farmers and residents in North Cotabato province praised the planned construction of an eleven-kilometer farm-to-market road in the town of President Roxas that would hasten the delivery of farm products and spur economic development in the area.
The construction is expected to start soon after Gov. Manny F. Piñol convened the provincial engineering team and town officials led by Mayor Jaime Mahimpit about the project.
Mahimpit said the project will benefit many farmers in different vilages in the town. The farm-to-market road would mean improved mobility for both people and produce in the town, especially in the villages which are under the Special Area for Agricultural Development Program of the provincial government.
“This has been the cry of our farmers, a passable farm-to-market road and this project is the answer to that”, Mahimpit said.
The Provincial Engineering Office said it would conduct an inspection of the areas on Monday and prepare the program of work. This will be followed by a consultation Thursday with villagers.
Aside from the road project, Piñol also ordered the distribution of rubber seedlings and fertilizers worth more than P100,000 to farmers in the village of Salat in an effort to promote the planting of the trees.
