Arroyo Visits Libya, Meets With Ghadafi

Libyan President Moamar Ghadafi received Sunday evening President Gloria Arroyo of the Philippines who arrived in Great Jamahiriya.
President Arroyo renewed at the out set of the meeting on her own behalf and on behalf of the Filipino people, the expression of profound gratitude and recognition of the early initiatives of the leader of the revolution to achieve security, peace and reconciliation in the Philippines, and the continuation of his efforts in this respect.
She said she came at this time in particular to Great Jamahiriya to mark the 30th anniversary of the signing of Tripoli peace agreement in 1976 between Moro Liberation Front and the Filipino government which ended wars that lasted protracted years, and in the light of which a final peace agreement was signed between both parties in 1996, by virtue of which the persecution from which Muslims in the Philippines were suffering was ceased altogether, enabled them to take part in the government, and on the bases of which the process of restructuring and development in southern Philippines, and realizing comprehensive national reconciliation was started.
President Arroyo offered the leader thanks and gratitude on her own behalf and on behalf of the people of the Philippines, for the efforts of Great Jamahiriya through the role of Libyan observers present in the Philippines, its role in the 8th committee that follows up the peace agreement in southern Philippines, and its efforts within the OIC on reconciliation in the Philippines.
President Arroyo invited the leader during this meeting to visit the Philippines to enable the Filipino people to meet him directly, and express the high standing in which they view the leader. During this meeting the leader explained to the Filipino president the vision of Great Jamahiriya on Islamic minorities, stressing the importance of respecting such minorities their heritage and their equality with all citizens and not to subject them to any persecution.
For her part, the Filipino president praised this vision and underscored the importance of the role of Muslims in the Philippines, and in realizing development and stability.She also underlined to the leader that her country respects Islamic religion and culture and Muslim choices in the Philippines.
President Arroyo hailed the wisdom and strategic vision of the leader of issues preoccupying the world, and his continuous resolve that security, stability, peace and harmony prevails by establishing just and equal international relations based on mutual respect and constructive cooperation among the various peoples and nations.
The President of the Philippines renewed the resolve of her country to strengthen its relations with Great Jamahiriya in various fields, praising the prominent status enjoyed by Great Jamahiriya in Africa, regionally and internationally.
The meeting was attended by the high level delegation accompanying president Arroyo, secretary of women affairs at the General peoples Congress, and the Secretary of the GPC for Foreign Liaison and International Cooperation. (Libyan Jamahiriya Broadcasting Corporation)
