MANILA -- U.S. Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney and Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs Alberto G. Romulo make a toast to Philippine-American friendship during the U.S. Embassy’s Independence Day celebration, held July 4 at the U.S. Embassy on Roxas Boulevard, Manila.

Nearly 1,000 friends, colleagues and well-wishers joined in the annual celebration, which featured fireworks and music from internationally recognized Filipino jazz artist Mon David and his band.

July 4, 2006, was also the 60th anniversary of Philippine-American Friendship Day.

Earlier that day, Kenney and Romulo kicked off a year of celebration with the unveiling of a photo exhibit at the Department of Foreign Affairs that revisits 60 years of friendship using photographs amassed from several private and public collections.

“I am personally honored to recognize the deep partnership between the United States and the Philippines on July 4, the most cherished of days in American history,” said Kenney.

On July 3, she inaugurated a Philippine-American Friendship Garden with Romulo on the grounds of the U.S. Embassy that “reflects the living and growing relationship that we have,” she said.
