1,200 Affected By Typhoon Bebinca (Neneng) In South RP

MISAMIS ORIENTAL (Mindanao Examiner / 07 Oct) – More than 1,200 people were affected by rampaging flashfloods caused by Typhoon Bebinca, locally called “Neneng,” as it battered the southern Philippines.

The Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC) in Northern Mindanao reported that more than 100 houses were destroyed and damaged by the floods in the towns of Balingasag, Lagonglong, Salay and Tagoloan in Misamis Oriental.

In Lanao del Sur, a man was killed after he was hit by a tree, uprooted by strong wind, in the village of Daguan in Kapatagan town.

Just last week, the Philippines was also devastated by Typhoon Xangsane also locally tagged as “Milenyo.” The typhoon had killed at least 98 people dead.

Washington has donated $100,000 to the Philippine National Red Cross to help thousands of victims of the previous typhoon.

The aid, released this week through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), would be used to purchase essential relief supplies, such as blankets, mosquito nets, plastic mats and water containers to help about 11,000 people affected by floods and landslides. (Mindanao Examiner)
