Catholic Youth Flock To Davao For National Youth Day Celebration

DAVAO CITY (Mark Navales / 09 Nov) – For the first time in Mindanao, more than 10,000 mostly young Catholics flocked to Davao City in the southern Philippines celebration of the National Youth Day.

The five-day even, organized by Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Commission on Youth and Archdiocese of Davao, formally opened Thursday with the theme: “You Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path,” (Psalm, 119: 5).”

The gathering will include singing, prayers, Eucharistic celebrations and conferences.

Msgr. Fernando Capalla, the Archbishop of Davao, has called on the faithful to pray for the success of the event, the Catholic Asia News said.

Muslim religious leaders in Mindanao were also supporting the event.

The CBCP started the National Youth Day celebration in 1986 as a way of implementing its preferential apostolate for children and youth. It was traditionally held in Manila. (Mindanao Examiner)
