ZAMBOANGA CITY - Christmas came early for Filipino children in Zamboanga City, thanks to the U.S. military, which arranged for Santa Claus to visit local charities and distribute gifts to needy.
Children were able to tell Santa what they would like for Christmas during the event, which brought holiday cheer to everyone attending, a U.S. military statement said Tuesday.
The North Pole visitor also made an appearance during the city’s “A Night to Remember” holiday family festival on Dec. 9, where he joined local child star Aaron Junatas to toss candy to the crowd and talk to children.
Santa Claus was played by a U.S. Navy officer from the U.S. Joint Special Operations Task Force – Philippines (JSOTF), which is in the country assisting the Armed Forces of the Philippines by providing advice and training, and sharing information.
