South RP Hit By Quake

DAVAO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / 15 Mar) – An earthquake measuring 5.7 in the Richter Scale shook the southern Philippine port city of General Santos, but there were no reports of injuries or damage to structures.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the earthquake occurred at around 06:07:54.80 UTC. Philippine authorities said there were no reports of casualties.

The USGS said the earthquake was traced at 262 miles (422 km) Southeast of General Santos and 336 miles (541 km) South-Southeast of Davao.

The Philippines lies in the so-called Pacific "Ring of Fire," where tremors, some caused by volcanic activity, are common.
