Zamboanga Sibugay Under Police Alert

ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY – Police tightened security in the southern Philippine province of Zamboanga Sibugay after gunmen shot dead the son of a vice mayoralty candidate in Ipil town.

The two gunmen, who killed Gin Dionaldo, were captured after a brief chase in Ipil town, police said. The weekend killing was believed to be politically motivated.

Police is still investigating the murder. It was unknown if the killers real target was Dionaldo’s mother, Ana Mel. But the two men, all natives of Lanao province, allegedly confessed they were paid P30,000 to kill the young Dionaldo.

The 26-year old Dionaldo was a law student of Silliman University in the central Philippines. His uncle is also running as vice governor in the province, about 110 km east of Zamboanga City.
