MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / 24 Jul) – Government soldiers killed four communist insurgents in a clash in the outskirts of Sorsogon City in the Bicol region in Luzon island, officials said Tuesday.
The fighting broke out after troops, from the Army’s 22nd Infantry Battalion, raided a hideout of the New People’s Army in the village of Salvacion on Monday.
Soldiers also recovered three M16 and an M1 rifles from the slain insurgents, including a paid of radio transceivers and anti-government propaganda.
The NPA is the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines, which is fighting for the establishment of a Maoist state in the country. There was no immediate statement from either the CPP or the NPA. (Juley Reyes)
