Davao City Fast Becoming Murder Capital Of Mindanao

DAVAO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / 12 Jul) – When will the killings stop in Davao City? An employee of the Davao City Water District (DCWD) was shot dead Thursday by four motorcycle gunmen inside his house.

Police said Alejandro Avila was drinking with his cousin when the gunmen barged inside the house and shot him at close range.

Avila’s cousin was spared by the gunmen.

The motive of the attack is still unknown, but the spate of extra-judicial killings in Davao City has alarmed human rights group.

Dozens of murders the past months remain unresolved and largely blamed to the so-called Davao Death Squad, a shadowy vigilante group. Most of the attacks have targeted criminals and ex-convicts involved in various crimes. (Romy Bwaga)
