Rebels Kill Military Informant In Mindanao

DAVAO CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / July 26, 2008) – Suspected communist rebels have killed a farmer accused of aiding the Philippine military in anti-insurgency campaign in Mindanao, police said Saturday.

Police said Bonifacio Cabarilla was shot dead while on his way home in Paquibato district, a known stronghold of the New People’s Army in Davao City. No group has claimed responsibility for the killing which occurred on Thursday.

Police blamed the NPA for the attack, saying, rebels assassinated the farmer who was known as an ardent military supporter. The rebels were known to attack civilians suspected of aiding soldiers in anti-NPA operations in the southern Philippines. (Romy Bwaga)
