ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Sept. 22, 2008) - Motorcycle drivers belonging to different associations in Zamboanga City have criticized the Land Transportation Office for a controversial order they claimed is impractical and anti-poor.
The LTO said it would implement soon the Administrative Order 2008-015.
Under the new order, motorcycle driver should only carry one passenger and shall wear a standard crash helmet prescribed and approved by Department of Trade and Industry.
The order also prohibits drivers from using only slippers, sandals, flip-flops, short pants, and sleeveless shirt while driving. The new order already drew huge opposition from motorcycle groups even before it is implemented.
LTO regional chief, lawyer Aminola Abaton, said he would bring the matter to the attention of the central office. (Erico Rosco)
