Soldier Arrested Over Shooting Incident In Diplog City

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / September 10, 2008) – Police arrested an army soldier after he shot and wounded a cop during a heated argument in Dipolog City in Zamboanga del Norte province in western Mindanao.

Police said Corporal Arnold Jarmin, who is assigned at the 1st Infantry Division in Pagadian City, is being investigated after he shot police officer Hoff Bauer Insong during an altercation on Tuesday inside a commuter bus at depot.

Insong apparently suspicious of the soldier demanded to search Jarmin’s bag for weapon, but the two ended up in a heated argument until the policeman pulled out his gun.

Jarmin was quick to grab the pistol from Insong and it went off hitting the policeman in the leg. Policemen who responded to the shooting arrested Jarmin. (Erico Rosco)
