DAVAO CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Oct. 17, 2008) – Two people were killed in separate attacks in the southern Philippine city of Davao, where extra-judicial killings are rampant.
Police reports said two gunmen barged in the inside of Mark Castro, a professional dance instructor, in SIR Phase 2 in the village of Matina and shot him dead in front of his wife on Thursday afternoon.
The assailants escaped after the shooting. Police said the attackers spared Castro’s wife.
Hours later, two motorcycle gunmen also killed pedicab drive, Alier Diamante, while waiting for passengers in St. Michael Subdivision in Panacan village. Police said it is still investigating the motives of the two attacks.
Previous killings in Davao City blamed were largely blamed on anti-crime vigilantes, who had killed hundreds of people, mostly with police records, in recent years. (Romy Bwaga)
