ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Oct. 9, 2008) – An unidentified gunman shot and wounded a former village chieftain in an attack just outside his house in Zamboanga City in Mindanao, police said Thursday.
Police said Rolando Gregorio survived the attack late Wednesday and is now recuperating at a guarded hospital. It said Gregorio was in front of his house in Upper Calarian village when the assailant opened fire on him and fled after the shooting.
“We are still investigating the shooting,” said police investigator Anwar Salingkala.
Salingkala said policemen recovered empty shells of .45-caliber pistol from the scene.
Gregorio is currently a member of the board of the local electric cooperative. It was unknown if the shooting was connected to his job or not. (Erico Rosco)
