DAVAO CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Oct. 10, 2008) – A man desperate to marry his girlfriend, but has no money for wedding, climbed up a telecommunication tower Friday in Davao City in the southern Philippines to get public attention, police said.
Police said Jonjon Cartajo, 30, spent several hours on the tower and climbed down after Davao City Vice Mayor Luis Bonguyan and a member of the City Council, Leo Avila promised to help him marry the woman.
Other reports identified the man as Rodrigo Artajo and that he climbed the tower out of jealousy because he suspected his girl friend was flirting with another guy. (Romy Bwaga)
