Nograles Park In Davao City Demolished

DAVAO CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Oct. 22, 2008) – Local government authorities demolished a mini-park put up by the family of House Speaker Prospero Nograles.

The Erico Nograles park along the Mini-Forest Boulevard was ordered demolished Monday to pave way for a canal project in the area. The solon has ordered an investigation into the demolition of the park, which he said was put up for residents in the area.

“The one who ordered the demolition of the Erico Nograles Park should face the consequence for the incident since the demolition made by the City Engineer's Office Oplan Canal is illegal,” Nograles said.

Yusop Jimlani, head of the project, said the canal would solve the flooding problem in the city and that dozens of structures which are obstructing the flow of water in the area would also be demolished, including the house of village chieftain Amil Bangsa Manding, an ally of Nograles.

Nograles is a political opponent of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. (Romy Bwaga)
