ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Oct. 10, 2008) – A military intelligence agent was shot and killed by unidentified gunmen in the southern Philippines, police said on Friday.
Police said the gunmen attacked Ronnie Ebong, 45, while onboard his motorcycle in the town of Baliguian in Zamboanga del Norte province, where rebels are actively operating.
No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but police suspect it was connected to his covert work. The gunmen fled on a jeep after the shooting which occurred at around 9 p.m., police said without giving further details about the soldier's background. (With a report from Erico Rosco)
