Veteran journalist Juan L. Mercado Gets DOST Award

Mindanao Examiner and Philippine Daily Inquirer columnist Juan L. Mercado receives the “50 Men and Women of Science” award from Secretary Estrella Alabastro and her staff at Manila Hotel ceremonies. The awards formed part of the Department of Science and Technology rites to mark its golden anniversary.

DOST selected 50 men and women who made significant contributions to the development of science and technology in research, education, communication. Others journalists and educators who received the award along with Mercado were the late Jose Burgos Jr, Philippine Daily Inquirer’s Queena Lee Chua, Ateneo University’s Bienvenido Nebres, SJ, marine biologist Angel Alcala of Silliman University, economist Arsenio Balisacan of UP and mangrove scientist Jurgenne Primavera.
