Gunmen kidnap Pa, daughter in South RP

COTABATO CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Feb. 18, 2009) – Gunmen barged Wednesday inside a house in the southern Philippine city of Cotabato and abducted a Filipino-Chinese trader and his daughter, reports said.

The victims, Wilson Tan and his ten-year old girl, Jennifer, were taken at gunpoint. It was unknown whether rebels or criminal gangs were behind the abduction, but kidnappings-for-ransom are rampant in the troubled region of Mindanao.

Abu Sayyaf militants whose group is tied to al-Qaeda and Jemaah Islamiya terrorists are still holding at least 10 people hostage in the south and among them are four foreigners – a Swiss, Italian, Sri Lankan and Chinese and the rest are Filipinos. (Mindanao Examiner)
