Zambo cell phone trader killed in broad daylight attack

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Feb. 18, 2009) – An unidentified gunman shot and killed a cell phone trader in broad daylight attack Wednesday in Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines, reports said.

The victim, Asbi Hamsi, was killed at around noontime along Petit Barracks in downtown Zamboanga City, according to a report by the local ABS-CBN television.

Hamsi, a former policeman, was on his way home with his wife when he was gunned down. His wife was unhurt from the attack.

No individual or group claimed responsibility for the killing. Police said it is still investigating the motive of the murder. But killings, mostly perpetrated by gun-for-hire, are not uncommon in Zamboanga City. Many of the previous killings remain unresolved. (Mindanao Examiner)
