WWF is preparing for the International Earth Hour set on March 28.
WWF is preparing for the International Earth Hour set on March 28.
Started in Sydney in 2007, more than 2.2 million homes and business establishments switched off their lights for one hour to support the cause. In the year 2008, a total of 50 million people around the globe, including the Philippines joined and participated.
This year, the observance of the International Earth Hour is being taken by means of election, by vote. Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming.
And by joining this Global Election, you make one vote, and hopefully you’re the One Billionth voter that the Earth Hour is looking for, to present to the world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.
More than 1,760 cities, towns and municipalities in 80 countries have already committed to vote for Earth Hour 2009 as part of the worlds first global election between Earth and global warming.
In line with the observance of the International Earth Hour, the Freshmen Formation Program (section Q) of Ateneo de Zamboanga University launched a site that will encourage people in Zamboanga to participate and vote for the earth.
The group also invites everyone to share their opinions and thoughts on Earth Hour 2009 by visiting their URL: SaveOurselves.multiply.com. (Amilbahar S. Mawallil)
