KIDAPAWAN CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / September 1, 2009) – Two unidentified gunmen shot dead two men in a broad daylight attack Tuesday outside a Catholic church in the southern Filipino city of Kidapawan, police said.
Police said Paul Escueta, 20, and Johnny Kumaladang, 28, were shot several times at close range. Both men died before reaching the hospital.
The gunmen shot the duo at around 10 a.m. as they were about to enter the Cathedral gymnasium to play basketball with friends. The assailants fled on a motorcycle after the shooting.
Police said Escueta was facing criminal charges in a local court for illegal possession of firearms and carnapping. It was unknown whether the attack was connected to the cases.
No individuals claimed responsibility for the attack. (Geo Solmerano)
