Dr Sakur Tan, provincial governor of Sulu.

SULU, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / December 2, 2009) - Sulu provincial governor Dr Sakur Tan has filed his reelection bid along with his party members for next year’s polls and vowed to continue his clean and honest governance.

President Gloria Arroyo’s party, the Lakas-Kampi-CMD, nominated Tan as its official candidate along with Abdel Anni for vice governor and Tupay Loong who is running for the 1st Congressional District and Asani Tammang for the 2nd Congressional District.

Tan also led the filing of the nomination papers with the Commission on Elections of fourteen of Sulu’s 19 town mayors and eight of the 14 provincial legislators on Tuesday as hundreds of their supporters waved small flags and carried streamers out the poll office in Sulu.

“Running under the Lakas-Kampi-CMD, Dr Sakur Tan enjoys the support of the majority of the people of Sulu. If elected for a second term, Governor Tan vowed to continue his clean and good governance,” said Sonny Abing III, the provincial spokesman.

He said Tan, a known religious man and a philanthropist, is supporting the candidacy of former Defense chief Gilberto Teodoro, Jnr, who is running for the presidency. Tan is largely credited for many development and infrastructure projects in Sulu. (Mindanao Examiner)
