Prosecutor gunned down in Mindanao

PAGADIAN CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Aug. 3, 2010) – A Philippine prosecutor was gunned down Wednesday in the country’s troubled island of Mindanao, police said.

The attack occurred while Macadatar Marsangca was jogging on a village in Iligan City. The gunman escaped on a motorcycle driven by an accomplice after the shooting, leaving the bloodied Masangca sprawled on the road.

The motive of the attack is still unknown and investigators are looking into whether the killing was connected to criminal cases Masangca handled. The attackers were believed to be hired killers.

No individual claimed responsibility for the killing. (Mindanao Examiner)
