Philippine leader, Mindanao governors meet; talk about peace, anti-poverty programs

MANILA, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Oct. 19, 2010) – Philippine leader Benigno Aquino III have met with five governors of Mindanao and discussed with them the government’s anti-poverty program and peace efforts in the troubled region.

Among those Aquino had met were Sulu Governor Sakur Tan and Maguindanao Governor Esmael Mangudadatu, two of the most influential political leaders in the southern Philippines.

Both Sulu and Maguindanao are part of the five-province Muslim autonomous region and one of the poorest in the country. The governors also briefed the president about the current state of the provinces and their issues and concerns about the impoverished region.

Aquino also met Monday with government secretaries. (Mindanao Examiner)
