Kidnapped trader freed in Lanao Sur

MARAWI CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Dec. 15, 2010) – Kidnappers have freed a businesswoman they seized in the southern Filipino city of Iligan in Mindanao, authorities said Wednesday.

It said Eufemia Trocio, 53, who was kidnapped on November 22, had been released late Tuesday in the town of Piagapo in the restive province of Lanao del Sur.

Her captors originally demanded P300,000, but it was not immediately known if the victim’s family paid money or not.

Authorities said Trocio’s kidnapping had something to do with the family debts. (With a report from Merlyn Manos)
