Police capture notorious shooter in Zamboanga

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Dec. 13, 2010) – Police have captured a notorious gun-for-fire tagged as behind many killings in Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines, officials said Sunday.

Officials said Beniser Amping was arrested in the village of Talon-Talon where the spate of gun attacks was also blamed to the former soldier. His cousin, Omar Amping, who is also involved in the series of murders, remains at large.

Details of Amping’s arrest were not immediately known, but police had been tracking down the elusive gunman after he was linked to many attacks in Zamboanga and in the provinces.

Police had previously arrested Omar Amping and another gun-for-fire, Warid Ada for illegal possession of firearms, but freed them for still unknown reasons. Both had a string of cases filed in court against them. (Mindanao Examiner)
