COTABATO CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Jan. 20, 2011) – More than a dozen prisoners have escaped from a jail in the southern Philippines after destroying their cells, officials said Thursday.
Officials said 16 prisoners sawed off the iron bars of their cells and escaped under cover of darkness in Cotabato City. It was not immediately known why the escape was not detected by the jail guards.
Most of those who escaped were facing various criminal charges. Police have launched a manhunt to recapture the prisoners. (Mindanao Examiner)
