Pa, son killed in Basilan strafing


BASILAN, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Jan. 6, 2011) – An unidentified gunmen opened fire at a small crowd and killing a father and his son and wounded two more children in an attack in Basilan province in the southern Philippines, police and military said Thursday.

The attack occurred late Wednesday as the man and his five-year old son were buying at a convenience store in Lamitan town. The gunmen escaped after the shooting.

The motive of the attack is still unclear but other reports said feud could have triggered the killing.

Gun attacks are not uncommon in Basilan, also a stronghold of Abu Sayyaf rebels blamed for the spate of terrorism and kidnappings in the restive province. (Mindanao Examiner)
