ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Mar. 1, 2011) – Dozens of ferry passengers have been rescued after their vessel stalled off Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines, the Coast Guard said on Tuesday.

It said the ferry, MV Katrina V, took in water and flooded its engine room after huge waves battered the ferry over the weekend.

A fishing boat that passed near the Pilas Island spotted the ferry and rescued 85 people, said a local Coast Guard commander Perfecto Eden, adding there were no reports of casualties. (Mindanao Examiner)
