12 rescued Vietnamese fishermen return home

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Aug. 21, 2011) – Twelve Vietnamese fishermen who were rescued by the Philippine Navy have finally returned home.

The Vietnamese government said the fishermen, who arrived on Saturday, are natives of Quang Ngai province. They were rescued July 29 off Palawan province during a storm after surviving for five days in the cold weather.

Vietnamese Ambassador to the Philippines, Nguyen Vu Tu, flew to Palawan on August 17 to thank Filipino navy and government officials for the rescue of the fishermen.

“The Vietnamese Ambassador to the Philippines, Nguyen Vu Tu visited the Palawan Island Province on August 17 to pay his respects and express his gratitude to the Philippine naval officers for saving the lives of 12 Vietnamese fishermen and complete procedures for their return to their homeland,” Vietnam’s Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper said.
