COTABATO CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Aug. 2, 2011) – One person was killed and scores wounded in a bomb attack Tuesday in the southern Philippines, authorities said.
It said a parked motorcycle rigged with explosives was detonated in front of a gun store in Cotabato City at around 2 p.m. No individual or group claimed responsibility for the blast which occurred on the second day of Ramadan, Islam’s holiest month.
There were conflicting reports of the number of wounded people with the police saying at least 6 and the military reported at least five injured.
The party list group called Anak Mindanao said more than a dozen people was wounded in the attack and has condemned the bombing.
The military said it has no reports of previous bombing threats in Cotabato City. “We were surprised by this bombing and we have not received any threats of attacks,” Colonel Noel dela Cruz, a spokesman for the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, told the Mindanao Examiner.
Police said the explosion was probably triggered by a cell phone. (Mindanao Examiner)

Initial military reports identified the dead as Jimmy Ali and the wounded Nestor Luna, Macapantong Maliga, Guiahida Cuarak, Bryan Go, Ronnie Agan, Nancy Lagamon, Ike Karudin, Dello Dionisia, and Cherry Dionisia.
