MILF rebels yield in Lanao Sur

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Aug. 20, 2011) – The Philippine Army said 13 Moro Islamic Liberation Front rebels have surrendered in the southern province of Lanao del Sur.

It said the rebels also yielded assorted weapons to the 51st Infantry Battalion under Lieutenant Colonel Ceasar Marlon Yadao in the town of Malabang.

Those who surrendered were identified as Saiden Dimao Madag, Nasser Abdulkadir Amerol, Alioden Amen Cosain, Saddam Amen Cosain, Junain Morales Amerol, Daud Dimangadap Jamil, Asad Mandag Maliawan, Andy Lao Macasalung, Sali Gumacap Paulino, Jamaludin Amano Paulino, Juwair Gaus, Macacna Ismael Amino and Azis Samanodin Amino.

Yadao said the rebels were members of the MILF’s 116th Base Command of the 304th Brigade under Aleem Salic operating in the towns of Marogong, Kapatagan and Malabang.

“The surrender was made possible by the persistent intelligence and civil military operations efforts in the area. It can be noted that for the past quarter the voluntary surrender of MILF members were continuous with this development we are optimistic that we can still have more of them on our side before the year ends,” Yadao said in a statement sent to the Mindanao Examiner.

The MILF, the country’s largest Muslim rebel group, did not give any statement about the surrender. It is currently negotiating peace with Manila in an effort to put an end to decades of bloody fighting in the restive region. (Mindanao Examiner)
