Visayas, Mindanao in path of new storm

CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Oct. 11, 2011) – Philippine weather experts warned of more rains on Wednesday as storm ‘Ramon’ is expected to hit Mindanao and Visayas.

Storm Signal 1 was declared on Tuesday in at least 18 areas in central and southern Philippines.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA said among the areas which would be hit by the storm are Agusan Del Norte, Biliran, Bohol, Camiguin Island, Camotes Island, Capiz, Cebu, Dinagat Island, Iloilo, Leyte, Masbate, Negros, Samar, Ticao Island, Siargao Island, Surigao Del Norte and Surigao Del Sur.

PAGASA said the storm has a maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near its center and is moving west-northwest at 17 kilometers per hour. It is expected to cross the Visayas on Thursday and moved towards Zambales province on Friday.

The country was ravaged by two typhoons in recent weeks and left behind more than 100 people dead and billions of pesos in damages to crops and infrastructures and affected some four million people. (Mindanao Examiner)
