The beautiful Mount Matutum, an inactive volcanic mountain in South Cotabato province is a favorite of trekkers and mountain climbers in the southern Philippines. The 2,286-meter Mount Matutum is home to a number of rare and threatened species of birds, including the critically endangered Philippine Eagle (Pithecophaga jefferyi) or the monkey-eating eagle which is the tallest, rarest, largest, and most powerful birds in the world.
