ZAMBOANGA CITY (Bong Garcia / 09 Jan) Police said it recovered the bodies of a kidnapped Muslim religious leader and his son on a remote village in Lanao del Norte's Matungao town in the southern Philippines.
The victims, Mambuhay Mutalib and his son Bobong, were found dead with gunshot wounds in Pangi village in the neighboring town of Matungao, police said.
It said the duo was seized last week by four unidentified men inside a mosque in Maria Cristina village in Balo-i town.
A military report released by the Southern Command said the bodies were peppered with bullets.
Police and miltary said the twin killings could be connected to a family feud.
The young Mutalib was the chief suspect in the murder of another Muslim man named Hassan, a native of Pualas town in the province. Authorities did not say when and why Hassan was killed.
