Youth Program Launched In Zambo

ZAMBOANGA CITY (07 February) The Youth Entrepreneurship Program for Young Agri-Pinoys or “YEP for YAPPIES”, a project which aims to provide agricultural-based entrepreneurial opportunities to help organize out of school children and youth with special needs was officially launched in Zamboanga City.

The project was jointly undertaken by Zamboanga City Vice Mayor Maria Isabel Climaco and Presidential Assistant Christopher Arnuco in coordination with the Department of Agriculture and the City Agriculturist Office.

The villages of Tulungatung, Curuan and Malagutay were chosen as pilot areas for the YEP for YAPPIES program. At least 45 youths will benefit from the project and organizers said they plan to expand the YEP for YAPPIES project to 15 other villages in the coming months.

YEP for YAPPIES was conceptualized and proposed by the Fundacion Climaco, Inc. and also in cognizance of the potentials of a large number of out-of-school children and youth with special needs groups to significantly contribute to the thriving local economy.
The move is also to address the recurrent problem of unemployment and underemployment, specifically with young people who have no college degrees.

Arnuco welcomed guests and visitors, while Zamboanga City Agriculturist Diosdado Palacat gave an overview and mechanics of the project, and Department of Agriculture regional director Oscar Parawan gave a key note address before a huge crowd in Tulungatong village.

Climaco, Parawan and Arnuco also signed a memorandum of agreement which will pave the way for the collaborative efforts of all the agencies concerned to further promote the welfare of the out-of-school children.

Meanwhile, Climaco lauded the regional police force for its contribution to the stable peace and order situation in Zamboanga City.
