ZAMBOANGA CITY (Zamboanga Journal /11 Apr) Communist insurgents killed a soldier and a militiaman in a raid Tuesday on a military detachment in the southern Philippine province of Misamis Occidental, officials said.
Officials said troops were pursuing members of the New People's Army (NPA) who attacked the detachment before sunrise in the hinterland village of Upper Bautista in Sapang Dalaga town.
"There is an ongoing pursuit operation," Major Bartolome Bacarro, the army spokesman, told the Zamboanga Journal.
The attackers fled after the raid, taking with them assorted weapons. A police report said the rebels carted dozens of automatic rifles, including a machine gun.
"We are still awaiting reports from the First Infantry Division. We have no report about missing weapons," Bacarro said.
Brigadier General Eugenio Cedo, commander of the First Infantry Division, could not be contacted and his phone was turned off. The Southern Command also did not release any statement about the raid, but the province is a known NPA lair and had previously killed attacked soldiers and policemen in the town.
Fighting have escalated in many areas in the countryside after peace talks between the Arroyo government and CPP collapsed in 2004 following the pullout of rebels from the negotiations due to their continued inclusion in the terror lists of the United States and the European Union.
Rebel leaders demanded that President Gloria Arroyo asks the United States and the European Union to strike them off from the terror lists before they resume peace talks. Manila also suspended safety and immunity guarantee for its negotiators following the collapse of the peace talks.

How about let them still the guns and radio. But put a humming device on it. So, they can easily pin point there whereabouts. This is working smart. Time to use technology into an advantage. Guns are obsolete.
