Palau's First Lady Debbie M. Remengesau exercises regularly at the national track in the capital Koror. Remengesau arrives Thursday in Davao City in the southern Philippines for a three-day trade visit.

DAVAO CITY (Zamboanga Journal / 06 Apr) An 80-member delegation from the Republic of Palau arrived Thursday in this southern Philippine city for a three-day trade visit, Filipino officials said.

The group, led by Palau's First Lady Debbie Remengesau, arrived in Davao City onboard the newly opened Asian Spirit flight from the former US colony.

The delegation, officials said, also included former Palau President Kuniwo Nakamura and Senator Surangel Whipps Sr., Alfonso Diaz of the Palau National Congress, Palau Minister for Commerce and Trade Otoichi Besebes, Palau Chief of Staff Billy Kuartel and other officials and representatives from the Palau private sector.

The Mindanao Economic Development Council (MEDCo) briefed the group on the current peace and order and economic situation in the region.

Local officials and business and tourism groups also met with Remengesau's delegation and discussed bilateral trade proposals and a discussion on the RP-Palau fisheries cooperation.

"This is one great opportunity for Mindanao to foster trade ties with Palau which is seen as a potential market for our agri-based products," said said Undersecretary Virgilio Leyretana, MEDco officer-in-charge.

With a population of about 20,000, Palau mainly depends on food and other basic commodity imports, mostly from the United States.
