ZAMBOANGA CITY (Zamboanga Journal / 12 Apr) An Abu Sayyaf bomb accidentally exploded killing a suspected militant in the southern Philippine island of Jolo, officials said Wednesday.
The militant was tinkering with the bomb he planted on a road in the village of Bualo Lipid in Maimbung town, where troops frequently pass after it failed to explode on Tuesday, said Brigadier General Alexander Aleo, the island's military chief.
"The blast was so powerful that it obliterated the body of the bomber. All we recovered were pieces of his flesh, some hair and a damaged hand-held radio transceiver," Aleo told the Zamboanga Journal.
He said a military truck transporting troops had passed the road and an explosion was heard later. "The terrorist was probably tinkering with the bomb when it went off," he said.
The area, Aleo said, was a known lair of Abu Sayyaf terrorists whose group is tied the al-Qaeda network of Usama bin Laden.
He said troops also recovered steel shrapnel and found traces of ammonium nitrate, a banned chemical fertilizer used by the Abu Sayyaf in previous attacks in Jolo island, about 950 km south of Manila.
"We have all the trademarks of the Abu Sayyaf in this failed attack, and this served them a darn lesson," Aleo said.
On Tuesday, troops also killed a key Abu Sayyaf bomber and his father in a firefight in the outskirts of Zamboanga City. Troops gunned down Amilhamja Ajijul and his father Andalul after soldiers raided their hideout in the remote Curuan district, about 48 km northeast of Zamboanga City.
Four other men were also arrested by the raiders.

Ajijul headed the Abu Sayyaf's urban terrorist group and was blamed in the killing of a US soldier participating in a joint military drill in a bomb attack on a roadside eatery in Malagutay village in Zamboanga City in 2002, and the bombings of Shop-O-Rama and Shopper's Central department stores here that left dozens of civilians dead and wounded.
His group was also implicated in the twin bombings in downtown Zamboanga City last year that injured 26 people. The military also implicated Ajijul in the kidnapping of US citizen Jeffrey Craig Schilling in Jolo island and dozens of Filipinos in Basilan in 2000.

The Abu Sayyaf is on a US list of terrorist organizations and Washington has offered as much as $10 million bounty for the capture of the group's chieftain Khadaffy Janjalani and other known leaders.

Great. With sharpnel and bomb left, you can find out the origin. And, create a strategy to stop the abuse of the source. Hopefully, who is the master mind.
