North Cotabato Health Program Lauded

KIDAPAWAN CITY (Carl Bautista / 15 Aug) North Cotabato Gov. Emmanuel Pinol started the rounds of municipalities in the 1st congressional district to explain the Cotabato Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

"This program will everybody," he told village and municipal officials in Pigcawayan and Midsayap towns on Monday. They lauded the provinicial health program.

"Based on mutual assistance system organized by neighborhoods and communities, the CHIP pools together the resources of the individual member and local town and provincial governments to come up with a mutual fund that could be used to finance the medical and hospitalization needs of members."

"This is a program of the people of North Cotabato that will benefit most the indigent families of the province," he added.

Under the CHIP's Plan A, village or municipality or even city, and provincial government will each have a share as subsidy for the membership fee of indigent members.

Each village will contribute P140, the municipality or city P360, and the provincial government P600 to the indigent member's P100 for a total of P1, 200 annual premiums with a maximum coverage of P75,000.

Coverage includes expenses for room and board; services of health care professionals; diagnostic, laboratory, and medical examination services; use of surgical or medical equipment and facilities; and prescription drugs and biological.

Non-indigent individuals may also enroll for coverage at a yearly premium of P1,600. They are however no longer entitled to local government subsidy.
