DAVAO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / 02 Jun) – Police on Saturday tagged the communist New People’s Army (NPA) as behind the attack on two provincial engineers in Compostela Valley in the southern Philippines.
Police said the two -- Joseph Germo and Dominador Abedilla – were seriously wounded in the ambush in the town of Montevista on Thursday.
The motive of the attack is still unknown, police said, but it was quick to blame the NPA.
It said the two engineers were onboard a motorcycle and heading to a village to inspect a solar drier project of the provincial government when gunmen opened fire on them. The two men are still in hospital.
Police said the rebels may have mistaken the duo for soldiers. The NPA is fighting more than four decades of Maoist war in an effort to topple the democratic government and put up a communist state. (Romy Bwaga)
