NPA Base Falls In North Philippines

MANILA, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / 02 Sept) – Government soldiers hunting down communist insurgents have tumbled into a rebel base in the jungle of Sierra Madre in Quezon province, just outside the Philippine capital, officials said.
Officials said soldiers have claimed the rebel base Sunday after an overnight search for enemies in the area.
The base, used by New People’s Army rebels for training, was apparently abandoned before troops could even arrive.
The NPA, armed wing of the outlawed Communist Party of the Philippines, has been fighting to topple the democratic government and install a Maoist state in the country. (Mindanao Examiner)
