ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / July 22, 2008) – Police is investigating the murder of a Muslim businessman who was shot several times in an attack in Zamboanga city in the southern Philippines.
Police said Ibno Yusop, president of the Sangali-Bolong Drivers Association, was killed by one of two unidentified men on a motorcycle along Canelar Moret, a village near downtown Zamboanga, on Monday.
The motive of the attack was unknown and Yusop’s family said the victim had no known enemies and was a respected motorcar operator.
Yusop was waiting for passengers when he was attacked. He was killed instantly from different gunshot wounds in the body. Yusop’s body was sprawled on the street when policemen arrived.
The rising cases of unsolved murders and kidnappings in Zamboanga City have worried residents, but authorities continue to downplay the incidents and had tagged previous killings as isolated.
Zamboanga was also bombed in the past by Abu Sayyaf and Moro Islamic Liberation Front rebels. (Mindanao Examiner)
